This multi-coloured and complex African metropolis is the biggest city in South Africa and probably the living example of its much debated history. Johannesburg is not the capital of the country, but it represents its main economic hub, and is also the seat of the Constitutional Court.
Popularly known as Jo’burg, the city is constantly under renovation in all areas, allowing it to slowly but decidedly overcome its ‘Apartheid’ legacy. The Central Business District (CBD) alternates historic buildings with skyscrapers and a lively nightlife. Suburbs like Melville, Newtown or Rosebank have a bohemian atmosphere. With some of the best Johannesburg hotels, Sandton City and Hyde Park are modern residential and shopping areas.
Get to know South Africa’s history at Constitution Hill, the Apartheid Museum, and the Hector Pieterson Museum. Natural areas like the UNESCO World Heritage Site ‘Cradle of Humankind’, the Lion Park Nature Reserve, or the Krugersdorp Nature Reserve are located outside the city.
OR Tambo International Airport is the largest airport in Africa, while the smaller Lanseria Airport offers connections to mainly domestic destinations. Hotels near Johannesburg’s airport are a popular choice to avoid the last-minute rush. Check out the wide range of Johannesburg accommodation deals available on Booking.com.
The shopping malls were really good. We liked the casino at gold reef hotel. The hop on hop off bus was great. Use Uber to stay safe and don’t walk alone at night.
We are at marble restaurant which was unbelievable it was the best meal we have had in a long time

Joburg is "interesting" to see it but you never feel safe mainly because everyone tells you you are not safe.
The really interesting part is visiting Soweto with a local guide - this is something that helps you understand why Joburg is what it is right now.
We have seen the superrich white people´s areas with their homes that cost millions and we have visited the illegal housing barracks in Soweto near the Soweto soccer stadium. Joburg has it all - but it does not merge in a good way. Definitely not a place I would like to live in.
As a white person you leave a bit ashamed and in deep thoughts.

Johannesburg is a vibrant metropolis of coffee shops, cultures and people.
Gauteng as a province is the economic hub of South Africa and when looking to do business this would be the province to go to.
While for leisure there are many venues, hotels, and natural beauty to view and enjoy.

Two things are equally true: I love this city; it's a hard place to love. And it's become harder to love since I lived there 20 years ago, with things like consistent water and electricity no longer taken for granted. Driving there is a special kind of adrenaline rush (especially downtown), crime remains endemic, and the city is just crumbling. But it's also an incredibly friendly, diverse, culturally vibrant place. I go to Cape Town for beautiful views of the mountains and the sea; I go to Johannesburg to see old and dear friends and make new ones.

I like Joburg a lot but I stay in the northern suburbs.
I like Joburg a lot but I stay in the northern suburbs. That is really the secret to Joburg in my opinion is just stay in the suburbs around the mansions. There are tons of bars and restaurants and it’s very green. I really enjoyed going on walks because it is so beautiful. Just don’t walk alone after dark (same as anywhere else in SA) and you should have no problems

It was too pretty, very organized, and neat, everyone kept saying it was because I was in the posh area but I only chose to see the good in SA because it was just too fine especially since it was in Africa, I also found the whole of SA quite modern having traveled to so many places. I only feel sad I didn't explore the tourist attractions nor nightlife
I'm very glad I stayed here during my last night of my African holiday. Chris (the owner) makes sure that everything works properly. He picked me up from the airport and help with advice for dinner and visiting the city. Also, there are power cuts in Johannesburg but there's a generator at the hotel, so it all works fine. The house is lovely and the room was spacious and comfortable. Wifi works fine. Allison was very kind. Breakfast was delicious. Would definitely come back.
Everything was perfect!! The host treat us like familly. Our flight delayed (a Lot) and It was december 31. He was very kind to receive us like 10 PM during his New year party. Everything in our staying was perfect. The breakfast was amazing very similar ou even better than 5 star hotel. Staff super kindly and The manager, a lovely ladie give us some nice suggestions about Restaurant. I am sure it is the best and warm experiênce you can have in Johannesburg.
The location in Sandton was very convenient to the airport train, an adjacent mall, and restaurants. The room was large with a great view over the gardens and pool area and a view of ‘the tallest building in Africa’. The service was great, with the front desk booking our rapid covid tests done at the hotel for our reentry into the USA. The food was excellent. Thanks for a wonderful visit.
As always (this was our 4th stay I believe), everything worked out great.
The room is big enough for 2 adults + 1 child, the beds are comfy, the breakfast is probably the best treat - the egg station always makes killer omelettes!
The location right across the road of Sandton City is SO good. For the price you pay, there is no better value for money hotel in Sandton!
Thank you so much HRM King Taka IV for the wonderful reception at Muwah Palace in Johannesburg!!! The venue was more than 5 star. The amenities and kitchen was exquisite. The breakfast as well was great. The palace hosting and services provided exceeded our expectation. I will definitely be using only this villa whenever I come to Johannesburg!!
Very convenient location. Only a 5 minute walk from East gate mall. The Bolt taxi service was also brilliant and met us at the reception. Breakfast was abundant. The staff even packed us breakfast packs as we had to leave for a tournament at 6am. Will definitely use the Stayeasy hotel's again. Cost us R57 from the airport for 4 Adults.
I have stayed in various places around Johannesburg during my South African trips for two last years, and this is my favorite. Amazing location, very chill and safe. Great staff, home feeling, good WiFi, good breakfast - our family stays here for the second time already, and if I’ll visit Johannesburg again, I will stay here again.
The overall furnishing of the hotel, the Spa and the friendliness of the staff were amazing! Please keep up the good work! Unfortunately, I've seen hotels going down in quality in South Africa as they haven't maintained their amenities. So please keep an eye on that - I'd also love to come back in the future ;-)
It was very clean the location is fabulous to get to Gemilli for dinner and Nostra to dance the night away! The decor far exceeded expectations, very much the standard of 4/5 star hotels and value for money! The staff were also incredibly lovely and helpful! Will definitely stay here again!
This was a one night layover in Johannesburg after being in Paris, Kenya and the Seychelles , for two weeks.
This property FAR exceeds all expectations.
The couples spa treatment was the absolute best.
A charming boutique hotel in a safearea of Johannesburg, close to where we needed to go. The decor was a combination of luxe modern and old safari, a perfect intoroduction to South Africa.
